Drive from Las Vegas to Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

Hi

I am currently planning a trip with friends for Dec/January 2008. The current plan is to drive from Las Vegas to Heavenly, Lake Tahoe - can anyone tell me is this journey is feasible? Searches have returned various journey times from 9 to 12 hours. Also, are we likely to incur problems with road closures due to snow at this time of year?

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thank you!

Drive from Las Vegas to Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

Oh my. I drove from Mammoth to Tahoe during January and there is a reason that there was no one else on that road. If the weather is bad there is a stretch of road between Mammoth and Bridgeport that is terrifying. If it is sunny but windy - same terrifying results. If no wind or snow then it would be fine but the chances of that are slim during Dec and Jan. I would fly from Vegas to Reno. That is a really long drive. If it%26#39;s snowing it will be longer still. We have and 4 wheel drive SUV and just as we were driving away from Tahoe toward Sacramento chain controls were being enforced. While we don%26#39;t have to put on chains the driving is no easier or less risky.
