I welcome any input from all you experts (like HopSkipJump) on this question: What side would you recommend sitting on? The coastal side SEEMS obvious, but (living in Vancouver) I%26#39;m no stranger to ocean views and I wonder if there might be equally charming views on the land side. Also, wouldn%26#39;t it be kinda hot on the sunny side?
Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner - San Diego to LA
I%26#39;ve made the trip many times. I%26#39;d recommend the ocean side. No, I don%26#39;t ever recall being uncomfortable with the heat of the sun. No, I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s anything as compelling on the inland side. But, I can%26#39;t say I%26#39;ve ever taken a look. Understand, too, the ocean views are only for the first part of the trip out of San Diego. In Orange county, it heads inland.

Definately ocean side! I think the windows are tinted a little bit and the AC works VERY well.
Good solid info - Thank you both!
Ocean side. Actually the portions on the coast are short but fairly spectacular. First a brief stretch at Del Mar and then a longer stretch at San Clemente. After San Clemente, the track heads sharply inland.
I%26#39;ve been through there on the train dozens of times and agree with the above statements. When going north, feel free to move to the inland side once you pass San Clemente. You%26#39;ll have to sit on the ocean side the entire time when heading south.
