I%26#39;m spending about a week in California that includes one night in Monterey so we can get up the next morning and go on the 8:30am whale watching boat out of Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf We%26#39;ll be coming in from Yosemite the night before and leaving for San Francisco after lunch. We really just need a place to sleep that%26#39;s not too expensive, clean, not far from Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, and safe for two women traveling by themselves. Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.

Monterey Bay Lodge looks pretty close to FW

I agree with Kibblesmom--Monterey Bay Lodge is close to the Wharf and is safe, clean and comfortable and pricewise a good bet. Two other possibilities--both somewhat pricier--are the Portola Plaza Hotel and Holiday Inn Express/Cannery Row.
Consider Casa Munrus. A nice place a few blocks walk from the wharf.
Marina is a place about 15-20 minute drive to Fisherman Wharf and will be the most inexpensive area to find lodging. The lodging here is fine to stay at and its an easy drive into Monterey.

The other places listed in Monterey and if within the budget are better location wise.
Do want to mention Marina if looking for just a place to catch some sleep and not spend much $,
