Hello
Could you suggest a family friendly district / hotel ?
We plan to see the museums, the Walk of Fame and maybe go to the beach (though in March it will be cold)
Not sure if we will rent a car
Thank you
Mrs
I responded to your other post before seeing this one.
I think you should rent a car. Otherwise, tending to the baby is going to make your visit very difficult. I would suggest staying somewhere centrally located since, for example, the museums are spread out across our city.
For example,
1. the Getty Center (art museum) is on the ';westside'; of Los Angeles (GETTY.ORG);
2. the LA County Museum of Art and adjacent La Brea Tar Pits / Page Museum are in central Los Angeles (http://www.tarpits.org/ and LACMA.ORG) and
3. the Museum of Contemporary Art is in downtown which is near the eastern end of the city of L.A. (MOCA.ORG)
Here%26#39;s a map of the L.A. metro area to help get you oriented. PLEASE NOTE: There is an error on this map. The neighborhood known as HOLLYWOOD is not shown correctly. It should be where the word UNIVERSAL (in UNIVERSAL STUDIOS) is located.

';Downtown'; Los Angeles is in the center of the map within the triangle of blue lines above the words ';LOS ANGELES';.
Most things of interest to tourists are between downtown and the ocean (on the left), or southeast of downtown, e.g. Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, etc.
If you plan to visit the Disneyland area, then you should stay in Anaheim (at least for part of your trip). If not, consider either Santa Monica (if you can afford it -- it is one of the pricier areas) or Hollywood (remember, its correct location) or perhaps the ';Beverly Grove'; area (just east of Beverly Hills but not shown on the map).
Tell us more including how much you are willing to spend per night for accommodations and we can suggest hotels.
Mrs
Thank you for your Help Hop Ski Jump
We have a budget of 1500$ for 7 days, for 2 adults and 1 child
It is for hotel, restaurant, car rental an entrance fees (museums and maybe a guided tour).
writing this down I realized it is only 215$ per day so maybe it is not enough ?
I dont know how expensive it is in L.A.
We have a seperate budget for Disneyland, so we dont need to include it in the 7 days.
Thank you
Hotels start at about $100 per night (there are cheaper ones but usually they%26#39;re in neigjhborhoods that are either outlying or not too safe). A rental car will run about $25 per day but you will have to get insurance (assuming you don%26#39;t have coverage through your personal insurance programs) and that tends to double the cost of the rental. On top of the rental amount is the gasoline and the parking charges.Count on daily charges of:
Rental: $25
Insurance: $25
Gas: $10
Parking: $10-20 (your hotel may charge for parking)
or a total of about $75 per day
So, hotel of $100, car of $75, 3 meals per day for 3 of you ($60-$70) -- that%26#39;s $240 so far. Entrance fees vary a bit, e.g. the L.A. Zoo is $10 per adult (with free parking). LACMA is $9 (Parking is between $5 and $8). The Getty is free but parking is $8. (There%26#39;s no charge for the baby at any of these).
Take a look at the Orchid Suites Hotel (orchidsuites.com). All of their rooms have kitchenettes -- convenient for feeding the baby or preparing breakfast in the room.
The Hollywood Celebrity Hotel is adjacent to the Orchid Suites and features similar rooms/rates (but some of their rooms don%26#39;t have kitchenettes). Info at: hotelcelebrity.com
Another option is the Oakwood in Toluca Hills (about 10 minutes north of Hollywood). This property is designed as ';corporate housing'; -- business people transferred into the area stay here until they find a home of their own. The facilities are expansive and feel more like a resort than ';temporary housing';. Info at:

If you%26#39;d prefer to stay on the westside, consider the Comfort Inn:

Good luck!
