Me and my friend are going to san diego on J1 for the summer from start of june to september. We are hoping to stay in an area close to the beach. Looking for jobs, cheap accommodation (willing to share with many people), So basically looking for advice on the best spot.. or any advice out there... san diego is pretty big and im fairly clueless! :) Lisa
San diego - J1
You can try sandiego.craigslist.org which is an on line bulletin board listing roomates etc.
There are also some hostels in town. The Banana Bungalow is at the beach. There is also a YMCA downtown that has turned into an inexpensive hotel called 500West See www.500westhotel.com
It is not at the beach but it is near lots of restaurants andhotels where you might find a job and also near public transportation.
San diego - J1Just remember - you are earning dollars - which are not much compared to the Euro today. Housing in San Diego is expensive - though not as expensive as Co Dublin.
What sort of summer jobs are you looking for? Low- tech - like working at a hotel or restaurant or a more high-tech - doing an Internship, etc.
Also - what is your age group %26amp; interests- that would help with recommendations.
Hi Lisa,
Another good website for your job search and roommate search is www.SDReader.com. Go to the Classifieds section.
If you don%26#39;t have a car and want to be close to the beach, try to find roommates in Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, or Mission Beach. Those are fun areas with a lot of students. You may be able to move in with somebody whose roommate is away for the summer. But definitely you%26#39;ll need a job, because the closer you get to the beach, the more expensive the rentals are.
Good luck!
