We are considering another family vacation to San Diego this summer and may split our time between a downtown hotel and the Four Seasons. From the Four Seasons, how long a drive is it to Laguna Beach? Is it worth a day trip or would we be better off staying up in that area?
How far a drive to Laguna BeachA drive from the Four Season to Laguna Beach would make a nice day trip. It will take less than an hour, probably 40min. O fcourse staying in the area would give you a different perspective and would certainly be a little different for you.
How far a drive to Laguna BeachWe went from San Diego at the Hotel Del Coronado to Laguna Beach last month. I was glad we experienced both places, tho our stay in Laguna was only one night. If your budget allows, consider a stay at the Montage Resort and Spa. We loved our stay there and the beach behind the resort was gorgeous. The scenery around the Laguna Beach area is very different than San Diego. Plan a meal at one of the restaurants at the Montage, I highly recommend The Studio for fine dining there. There is also a spa and salon if you want to be pampered while in Laguna and enjoy the property at the Montage, even if a stay there doesn%26#39;t work out for you.
Have fun and let us know how your trip goes! :)
I will be travelling with my husband and 3 sons - ages 12, 15 %26amp; 17. I%26#39;ve looked at the Montage, but think the Ritz or the St. Regis might be a better fit. In fact, I have enough Starwood points for at least 1 free room at the St. Regis (we definitly need 2). Besides tennis and the beach, any recommendations for what we could do in that area. (The laguna beach/dana point forums aren%26#39;t nearly as active and my inquiries posted there have received little response).
We have stayed in Dana Point. the harbor there is protected and you can rent sea kayaks, jet skis and go aboard 2 sailing ships that actaully go out to sea as well. Here is a link to the sailing ships and rentals.

LagunaBeach itself lists the harbor at Dana Point as an area attraction.
I don%26#39;t know the dates of you rtrip but Lagun is known for several events including the Pageant of the Masters where they have tableaux(people dress up like the painting) of famous art works. I have never understood the attraction of such a n event but it gets very crowded and people come from all over to see it.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Sounds like Laguna Beach would still be best as a day trip for us. I don%26#39;t think my crew would be terribly interested in the living art and my middle child%26#39;s queezy stomach probably rules out the tall ship trip. We will probably stick with the Four Seasons and use it as a base to visit Laguna, the Wild Animal Park and the Del Mar racetrack. I think that should keep everyone happily occupied, especially if we can get our beach fix first staying at the Del Coronado for a couple of days.
I %26#39;ve lived and or worked in Laguna 30 years A day trip would be fine Just leave early. Find parking near Main Beach, check out all the shops, play on the beach, find a good spot for lunch, soak up some sun, head south on Coast Hwy. Stop at the Montage and for sure take the walk in front of the hotel for some of the best views in Laguna. Stay heading south on PCH and you%26#39;ll end up in Dana Point. If you want to check out the Harbor It%26#39;s just a block off the Hwy. Have dinner there(lots of choices) The freeway entrance is right down the road and your on your way back to San Diego after a really fun day trip Just be patient with our California traffic and you%26#39;ll have a great time
