I have one free day at the end of my trip and have a choice between Knotts Berry Farm, Universal and OC Experience (Newport beach).
Which one would be best for me:
I like rides but not mega rollercoasters
I%26#39;ve been to Universal in Florida as a kid 15 years ago
I%26#39;d like to see the beach, but it%26#39;s not a must see if there are better things to do.
Ps. I%26#39;m already planning on spending 2 days at Disney.
Knotts Berry Farm, Universal or Newport beachForgetting those options for a moment, what activities interest you:
Museums, natural beauty, architecture, celebrity-spotting, etc
I ask you this because if you have an opportunity to go to Universal, consider breaking away from there and going into Hollywood (10 minutes away). From there, you can explore lots and lots of Los Angeles and when you%26#39;re done, transfer back to Universal for the ride back to your hotel (I am assuming that you are on a tour of some kind).
In Hollywood, there are:
1. Walking tours of the historic theatres (redlinetours.com)
2. Coach tours of all of L.A. (some as short as 2 hours, some as long as a whole day): starlinetours.com -- click on HOLLYWOOD in the red area of their home page for tours departing from the Chinese Theatre courtyard.
3. Exploring the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Kodak Theatre (there%26#39;s a tour), Chinese Theatre
4. Public transit to the Farmer%26#39;s Marekt and the Grove (15 minutes).
You%26#39;ve travelled all this way to be here. Why not do what you really want?
Knotts Berry Farm, Universal or Newport beachJust going on the three choices you stated I say do Newport Beach and include Laguna Beach just to the south.
Universal isn%26#39;t all that interesting. Probably still the same as you remember the Florida one to be.
If you%26#39;ve gone to Disney there is no use for Knotts.
Just to say, that on the tour that I%26#39;m doing we should see the main sites in Hollywood.

I%26#39;m swaying towards Newport beach at the moment!
I think it depends on the time of year you are coming here. If you are coming soon you should know that we are experiencing record low temperatures so far this winter and the beach would not be pleasant. If you are coming here in February there is a good chance of rain.
Newport is nice, but the reality is it is just a beach town and not as glamorous as a tv show may make it appear. I have never seen the show, so I don%26#39;t know what they try to make it look like. I agree with the suggestion about also going to Laguna Beach. I think if you decide to go to Newport, since Balboa is so close you could go check out that beach and the dock of the bay there, maybe take a harbor cruise, and then you could drive south to Laguna, all in one day. So you would hit three Orange County beaches that each have a little something to offer. This would be hard to do if you are going in the middle of the summer because of the traffic and the parking at the beaches.
Okay, here%26#39;s the thing I like about Knott%26#39;s. I really like the western stuff. The cowboys, the Indian dancers, the stagecoach, the train (which is authentic, built in 1888 from what I saw marked on the engine). It is pretty corny, but nice. I like when they have the staged shoot outs in ';Calico Square';.
Knott%26#39;s is actually America%26#39;s first theme park. The Ghost Town portoin was built by Mr. Knott to honor the western pioneers that settled California and also to entertain people who would come from miles around just to have a chicken dinner cooked by his wife and buy some berries and jams from his farm. The food was so popular that their were lines of people waiting, so he figured he would give them something to do. And the chicken dinners are still being sold and the food one of the enjoyable parts of going to Knott%26#39;s.
The park has changed a lot in the last few years and has unfortunately gotten more centered on big rides, but it still has a laid back country feeling to it that you may enjoy given the fact that you are spending two days at DLR and sightseeing in LA. So, I say, if you don%26#39;t decide to go to the beach, go to Knott%26#39;s. You have been to Universal. It might be nice to go again, but Knott%26#39;s will be different, a little bit of Western, down home country, on your trip.
Laguna Beach and Newport Beach are excellent choices. Be sure and plan your lunch in Laguna Beach and sit by the water and enjoy the excellent ocean views.
You would be happy with this choice.
Enjoy!!
I%26#39;ll be coming in October.
I agree not to miss Laguna Beach, it%26#39;s very pretty in this area. Try to get over to the Montage Resort there, it%26#39;s an amazing place to stay. You could have a casual lunch at The Loft and take in the beautiful views of the pool, ocean and surrounding area. Have fun on your trip! :)
How would I get to Laguna beach by train / bus from Anaheim?
I thought it may be too hard to reach on my own. That%26#39;s why I was looking at the OC experience bus tour as an alternative.
Just found out that an OCTA bus go from Anaheim to Laguna Hills. Is this far from the beach?
Have a look at the website www.octa.net. This has all the bus routes and schedule and the trains.
From Anaheim, you can take the Metrolink or Amtrak to San Clemente, then have a look at the town and the beach. Then transfer to the Number 1 bus North to Laguna Beach;then Newport Beach transportation Center at Newport Center. From there check the bus schedule to return to Anaheim.
Enjoy!!
