We are flying into LAX from New Zealand and thinking it might be best to overnight at an airport hotel before collecting a car to drive down to San Diego the next day - not that keen on driving straight after a long flight. Would it make sense to shuttle to the hotel and then go back and collect the car from airport next morning, or would that be a nightmare? Any comments/suggestions welcome.
I am told it is not too difficult to get to the freeway to San Diego - is that right?
TIA

Its best to shuttle to the hotel. Then pick up the car in the morning.
Will save on rental costs and parking costsand also get you settled earlier into your lodging.
Driving to san diego especially since you are used to the other side of the road will be difficult. Traffic is one of the busiest and you%26#39;ll be dealing with the freeways that can even be a challenge at times for the locals. Recommend getting on the road after 10:00 a.m. if its a work day.

thanks mini - that%26#39;s helpful. We have driven in North America before but not in such a big city as LA!
The carf rental companies are outside of the airport and adjacent to the hotels. Thrifty rent-a-car (thrifty.com) has an office at 5440 W. Century Bl. This is the main road for hotels outside of LAX. Look for hotels on Century Bl between 5000 Century Bl and 5800 Century Bl (or on adjacent streets) and you can easily walk to pick up the car in the morning
Here are the list of airport hotels:
tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g32655-zfn4-Los_Angel鈥?/a>
There%26#39;s a map available for each hotel. Look for the words: ';map this hotel'; below the little photo in each listing. You are looking for the stretch of Century Blvd between Aviation Bl (to the west of Thrifty) and La Cienega Bl (to the east of Thrifty).
Good luck!
Thanks HopSkipJump - that is really helpful info ..
