Where to stay - San Francisco with 3 kids under 11

Hey there

Any recommendations for where to stay with three kids in SF - from Australia, never been before. Uniion Sq or Fishermans wharf. And any ideas for a mid range place to stay for 5 of us for 4 nights ? Is booking direct better and should I wait until just before we arrive in mid may for the best deals ?

tks

I%26#39;d book direct, rather than wait til you get here. I presume you are arriving elsewhere in the States first and touring.

The Wharf is better if you have kids, though you don%26#39;t get as much for your money. Kids love the area and it%26#39;s a entertaining place for your home base. Union Square will have a more urban feel. Holiday Inn Express, Tuscan Inn and Argonaut are pretty universally recommended for many reasons, though there are other places that I have not mentioned that would be fine as well. Others may have more specific recommendations given the number of kids, etc.

Book sooner rather than later and definitely don%26#39;t wait until you get here. That just isn%26#39;t wise in my opinion.

The Argonaut is the best Wharf hotel, however, it will be pretty pricey to get a room that will acomodate 5 people.

The Tuscan Inn is another that people really like.

If Im not mistaken, the Holiday Inn Express offers free breakfast, so that may save you some money.

The Wharf definitely caters to families, although as BTB said, you don%26#39;t really get as much for your money as far as the hotels.

I would definitely stay on Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf if you have kids... (more for kids to do than in Union Square). I%26#39;ve stayed at both the Tuscan Inn and the Radisson on the Wharf and was very pleased with both hotels.

Try ColumbusMotorInn.com.........with a credit card you can book now but not pay until you arrive, and can cancel or change beforehand if a better deal pops up. check the reviews here on TripAdvisor

I will say with kids stay at Fishermans Wharf.

The Argonaut is a great hotel, pricey but it has no pool.

Other hotels to consider is Holiday inn, Holiday Inn Express, Radisson.

Many of the hotels do NOT accommodate 5 guest, you will have to either get adjoining rooms or a larger suite (smaller suites have a 4 person limit as well). Found this out when we had out 3rd. We are staying at Columbus Motor Inn when we return to San Francisco this summer. They have a suite that accommodates 6 for the same price as many of the standard rooms in Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf. Also free parking. It is only a couple of block from Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf and the trolleys.

When looking at places, we also consider Hotel del Sol (they have family suites and a small pool) and Hotel Metropolis which had an amazing kids suite, but was just too much at the end of the day when we added on parking.

Public transportation is amazingly easy in the city. That was half the fun of the day for my kids.

I don%26#39;t know any real details, but if Im not totally mistaken, I believe I read a recent review that stated the Del Sol no longer had the family rooms with bunk beds(?) You may want to check in to that before you arrive just to be on the safe side. It was the only review that I%26#39;ve seen that said that, it was on this site. Take that info for what you will.

Tuscan Inn is perfect for kids..We took our 3 kids there. They have a 2- room ';family suite';(only booked by direct calling..not online and they only have two of these rooms available). You are in short walking distance of the wharf, Alcatraz boats, the trolley cars and restaurants.

Hi

I would stay at the NobHill Motor Inn in a family room. The room is huge and we have 4 children. We booked on line with them and had no problems. The rooms are not fancy but are large the kids had a bedroom with 2 queen beds and we had a king size bed in the other bedroom/loungeroom and clean. We used the cable cars and the bus service to go to Fishermans wharf and Union square. Using the transport system was easy and was part of the experiece for the kids.

I would check out VRBO.com we rented a condo off there for our family of 4 plus my brother. It saved a ton on $$$ and looks good
