Staying in Yosemite West in August, for 4 days, then on to San Fransisco. We have some flexibility as far as which airport to fly into on our way to Yosemite. Does it make more sense to fly into Fresno, Sacramento or even Oakland to reduce our travel time on the first day? Approximately how long is the travel time from each of these airports?
Airport travel times to Yosemite
Not sure if you are trying to see more of California...but best would be to fly into Reno, Nevada and drive down Highway 395 to Tioga Pass and enter the park from the East side. 2-3 hour drivfe.
From the ones you listed, Sacramento would be best - about 3 1/2 hours to Yosemite Valley.
Airport travel times to Yosemite
The Fresno airport is the closest to Yosemite. It is about an 80 minute drive to the southern entrance to the Park. Next would probably be Sacramento, then San Jose or Oakland, and then the San Francisco airport at about a 4 hour drive. Using the Fresno airport is the only one that will save you some time. It is an easy ariport to fly in and out of, but not a great choice of flights from there.
Enjoy your visit!
Fresno is the closest, but prices are usually higher. Its under 2 hours to yosemite west. Suzies idea is great, but its not an easy drive when you are tired. Its seems to me it would be longer than 2-3 hours since it is 1.5 hours or so from Tioga to Yosemite West. I could be wrong!
I believe from Reno it is a 3 to 3.5 hour drive to the Tioga gate then 1-2 hours into the Valley. So roughly 5 hours Reno to Yosemite Valley with the additional time from there to Yosemite West.
I%26#39;d check Fresno first, there are days in August when it is a cheaper ticket price than flying into Sacramento from Dayton.
