bay bridge construction

We are arriving in San Francisco next week and have never been there before. We are driving and will be going across the Bay Bridge. Does anyone have any idea what highway (s) are effected by the truck accident last week?

Thanks!

The 580 and 80 are closed. The 880 may also be affected. You can check road conditions through Caltrans website or with the California Highway Patrol.

In fact, Highway 80 is not closed. You will see when you get off the bridge three highway choices: the two or three lanes to your left go to Highway 80 (which takes you in the direction of Sacramento and Lake Tahoe), those in the middle go to Highway 580 east and those to the right go to Highway 880 east. What is closed is access to Highway 580 (and from there Highway 24).

There is a clearly marked detour back on to highway 580, via Highway 880. You stay toward the right when you get off the bridge, take the Highway 880 exit and then take the Grand Avenue exit. There are signs that will show you how to proceed down Grand Avenue until you get to an entrance to Highway 580 or Highway 24.

Alternatively, those who are going to the east bay have also been taking Highway 80, getting off at Powell Street and then using the surface streets to get to their destinations, generally Berkeley. I haven%26#39;t done this, but hear this hasn%26#39;t been too efficient, because there%26#39;s a lot of traffic this way.

Kenadie - I disagree with the previous answer. Only a short connector ramp between I-80W and I-580E (going from Berkeley to downtown Oakland) is closed. Traffic is diverted onto Oakland city streets but it has not caused a great backup or many problems. It%26#39;s nothing to be concerned about.

Thank you, latinafro

I based my assumption on an SfGate article. That%26#39;s why I recommended checking with CalTrans and the CHP. Glad to hear everything is going smoothly up there with the detours.

Have a good evening!

it%26#39;s eastbound 80 to eastbound 580 that is still closed. westbound 80 to eastbound 580 and southbound 880 are open, however southbound 880 is closed late evening to 6am for continuous work. Where do you want to drive to and from?

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your replys. We will be coming in on I 80 and going West into San Francisco, with all your comments I%26#39;m hoping we will make it through okay! it%26#39;s just so hard not knowing the area! Thanks again!

just stay in the two right lanes once you past Gilman and it leads to the bridge. Any backup normally is to 580-880 (left side).
