Ridgecrest to Las Vegas via DV in a day

Just wondering which would the best/most scenic route and how long each would take?

Is it best to take the 190 into DVNP, then head south on 190, across to Pahrump, then 160 to LV...

or...

190 into DNVP, then 374 to Beatty, then 95 down to LV.

We%26#39;ll be staying in Ridgecrest May 1 after a long day%26#39;s drive from Yosemite (Fish Camp), via Kings Canyon/Sequoia NP.

Plan on leaving Ridgecrest around 10am. If I fill up with gas in Ridgecrest will this see me to Vegas in one go or will I need to fill up en-route?

Also, are there rest areas with toilet facilities once you get into DVNP...or do you have to hold on till you get somewhere more populated!

Wer%26#39;e not the type to go exploring on foot, so we we%26#39;ll be happy to see the views from the car, occassionally stopping for photos/video etc.

Any other advice much appreciated,

Cheers

Jono

Hi Jono

From Ridgecrest (yes fill up your tank, fuel is expensive in DVNP) drive ca178 to Panamint Springs. You can drive Emigrant Canyon Road (not to vehicles longer than 25 ft) but it%26#39;s slow and winding. At Panamint Springs you reach ca190. Turn right and drive to Stovepipe Wells (restrooms-lol). Now visit the Sanddunes and continue to Furnace Creek Visitor Center (restroom, won%26#39;t mention it again). Take your time here very interpretative. From the visitor center drive 190 to Zabriskie Point and enjoy the views from the crest (short walk). Now turn back to the visitor center and continue to the left on 178. Make a stop at Mushroom Rock, drive awesome Artist Drive (one way, from the south), visit Devils Golf Course and Badwater and continue on 178 to Ashford Mills ruins and drive Jubilee Pass and Salsberry Pass to Pahrump and to Las Vegas. Many other options like Scotty%26#39;s Castle, Ubehebe Crater and many 4x4 drives, but that probably take too much of your time. Temps can be over 100 F also in may. Always carry water. The total drive will be some 300 miles so better start early. For your drive from Yosemite through Kings Canyon and Sequoia NP start very very early. Kings Canyon is beautiful but takes a lot of time (if passable due to snow) If it%26#39;s only the giant sequoia%26#39;s you are after, skip Kings Canyon or make it a 2 days drive. It still will be a long drive. From Three Rivers it%26#39;s a steep descent

Yes, there are restrooms in Death Valley!

There are facilities at Pamamint Springs, Emigrant Campground on 190, all other campgrounds, Stove Pipe Wells, Furnace Creek, the park visitor center (near Furnace Creek), all ranger stations, Scotty%26#39;s Castle, some major road junctions, and the parking areas at many sites of interest (Salt Creek, Sand Dunes, Badwater, Zabriskie Point, Dante%26#39;s View, and others).

Some are ';real'; toilets (plumbing and running water), and many are outhouses. It%26#39;s a good idea to have a small supply of toilet paper as outhouses aren%26#39;t always maintained as often as ';real'; toilets, and a bottle of hand sanitizer like Purell since they have no washing facilities.

Thanks for your replies...it%26#39;s a big reassurance knowing what facilities are available when covering large distances!

Can%26#39;t wait for the trip
