SF to Crescent City along coast?

Hi,

Will be driving from Oakland to Crescent City and then on to Cave Junction, OR and back to Oakland with three kids over a three day weekend. I%26#39;m trying to decide if we should stop in Arcata area or just head strait to Crescent City in day 1, so am looking for interesting things to see/do on the 101 on the way up. We%26#39;ll do the redwoods national park on day 2, and OR cave on day three. Oak-Crescent City is a long drive I%26#39;d like to break up, but if there%26#39;s nothing good along the way...

Kids like wildlife, nature, and science in particular.

check out the little village of Trinidad, Ca. it%26#39;s about 25 miles south of cresent city. the gathering place is the resturant on the pier.

I agree Trinidad is real nice. For redwoods, I prefer the state parks to the national park. Humboldt Redwoods State Park for example.

Thanks guys. do you have any thoughts between Oakland and Eureka? We%26#39;ll be leaving around 2pm, so I know a lot of thing will be closed by the time we get up to the coast, and we%26#39;ll also need something to do around hour three so the kids can get energy out.

I heard something about a ';drive through tree'; along the way, but don%26#39;t know what or where it is...any ideas?
