I%26#39;m wondering if there are any good/cheap hotels around the san diego airport, that would have airport shuttle service.
I%26#39;m planning on renting a car as well. I%26#39;m going to use the airport shuttle hopefully to drop me off at day one so I can just maybe walk around a bit, then day 2 rent a car, do stuff, then the day before I leave drop the car back off, and use the airport shuttle to get back to the airport.
I%26#39;d appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Hotels/Airport questionThere are many hotels close to the airport, since downtown is just three miles away. My personal choice would be the Porto Vista in the Little Italy area of downtown. It has a free shuttle (also to various attractions), and it%26#39;s inexpensive, and located in a great, safe area that is very pedestrian friendly, surrounded by shops and restaurants, just blocks from San Diego Bay, and has easy access to public transportation if you don%26#39;t want to use a car.
Hotels/Airport questionchissis gave you a good idea. I fyou want a hotel with a pool you might try the BesWestern Bayview which is a high rise hotel near SanDiego Bay and the airport.
=) I%26#39;ve been looking things up. The little Italy one looks very nice.
I%26#39;m still checking areas as well. San Diego sounds very nice. I might not want to leave once I get there.
Many peopel feel that way. My husband was here when he was 17 and swore to come back some day. It took him 25 yrs but here we are.
=) It%26#39;s always a day brightener to hear things like that. =)
As for me I%26#39;m still trying to do the ';major'; planning.
Mainly... Finding a hotel. Then I%26#39;m going to work on the rental car stuff, and then itenerary.
I did however find something truly amazing.
There is a motel 6 with airport shuttle service. I%26#39;ve stayed with them before and it wasn%26#39;t bad for motel 6. It%26#39;s called the motel 6 Airport/Harbor.
Has anyone seen this place? There haven%26#39;t been any new reviews since December 06. And places can change really fast. It%26#39;s off the pacific highway. And there is a rental car place according to google maps about 1 mile up the road on 1327 W Palm St, San Diego, CA. Is it walkable? It looks like there is a side walk the entire way, if so is it safe?
The Motel 6 Airport/Harbor is in an OK area - a very busy street, and a few blocks from the main area of Little Italy, but not too bad. It%26#39;s right in the flight path, and not quite as convenient for restaurants or shops, it would be a bit more of a walk in a bit less comfortable area (after dark), but still doable.
There%26#39;s also a Motel 6 (called Motel 6 downtown) in what I think is a bit better area at 1546 2nd Avenue - same general neighborhood, just quieter and closer to more things if you%26#39;re set on a Motel 6. There%26#39;s also a Super 8 right next door to the Porto Vista that is very well located, and would be my choice over any of the nearby Motel 6%26#39;s just because of location.
The car rental on Palm is definitely walkable, and there are several closer rentals (both local and national) to Little Italy, depending on which hotel you choose.
Bit less comfortable area after dark? Well after the things I%26#39;ve been reading San Diego has quite the night life... And I%26#39;d like to see some of it as well.
Okay I looked up the one you said. That%26#39;s where it is located. I%26#39;m not set on Motel 6, it%26#39;s just they have what I need, no frills place to stay. It also has recent reviews which is always nice. The super motel 8 looks really nice, I like the way the building looks. Pretty neat. Pardon my ignorance, but what is the Porto Vista?
Okay, so if I were the look at the ones close to downtown, or in downtown like the Super 8 or Motel 6 those would still be walkable to that certain rental agency?
The night life is in the ';other'; direction from Little Italy - opposite from the Motel 6 you mentioned - there%26#39;s nothing down that direction. The Porto Vista is right next to the Super 8 in Little Italy, it%26#39;s a brand new hotel with really reasonable prices. Any of those hotels would be an easily walkable distance to a car rental agency.
Another thought..... from the airport, you can catch City bus #992 for $2 that will drop you off right downtown - and just a block from the 500 West Hotel. That is VERY reasonably priced (some shared baths) - in a great area between Little Italy and Gaslamp (nightlife) and also close to car rentals.....or you could always catch the bus back to the airport, then take an airport shuttle to pickup your car -
