need one day and hotel suggestion

Family of four (kids age 11 %26amp; 8) flying to Hawaii end of June and staying over one night in San Diego. We only have one day there so looking for suggestions regarding going to the zoo or Legoland. We have a good zoo here in the Texas metroplex and have also been to Disney%26#39;s Animal Kingdom so don%26#39;t know if it is worth spending the day at the zoo or doing something new with Legoland.

Also, any suggestion on a hotel close to airport, preferably w/ shuttle service?

Given that Legoland is about a 45 min drive north of the airport I think you might skip that for this trip. YOu might consider SeaWorld or if you think you%26#39;ll have enough sea creature time in Hawaii you could go visit the USSMIdway on the harborfront, drive up to Cabrillo National Monument (where Europeans first came to California) for spectacular 180 deg views,lighthouse,tide pools,go to BalboaPark even if youdont want to go to the zoo for interctive science museum and I-Max movies and gardesn.If you are here on a Sunday there is lots of outdoor entertainment in the park as well.Oh I just remembered the DelMar Fair(county fair) is on at thatt time and you might enjoy the activities there but you%26#39;d need a rental car.

As for hotels ,there are many near the airport as it isonly 3miles from downtown BUT few have shuttles. There%26#39;s the BestWestern Bayview which is ahighrise hotel with a shuttle ,pool etc. There%26#39;s also the HOlidayInn SanDiego on TheBay(not others with similar namesthis shuttle goes to the airport AND the zoo /park.

There%26#39;s also the Sheraton Marina BUT you%26#39;d need a rental car to get around town.
