moving to BB

My fiance and I love the mountains. We are both outdoorsy people who love to hike and fish. We decided that we loved it so much that it would be a good idea to LIVE there. We checked out Arrowhead, and I loved it, but it was a bit pricey, so we checked out Big Bear. Some areas reminded me alot of Victorville, which is only about 18 miles away, and I really dont like VV. Or maybe Im judging to quikly? Can someone, a local or anyone give me advice. I want to know if its a good place to live, what the community is like, any advice about an area close to trails, a cabin for rent thats deeply embedded in the forest, anything!

I grew up with my family always having a second home in Lake Arrowhead. It is a very lovely place to live and much nicer than Big Bear. I also felt it was more charming and a small knit community. I think the difference in price reflects that feeling. I remember running into celebrities in the local stores that all had homes in Lake Arrowhead....such as Liberace, Dennis Weaver, Erik Estrada, and Richard (TA wont let me write the nickname lol)Clark from American Bandstand....well, they were famous at the time.

Your description of BB comparing it to Victorville was very cleaver.

I grew up in Running Springs, a few miles east of Lake Arrowhead.

I think you can find the lifestyle you are looking for there without isolating yourself in Big Bear. Also look at the towns of Twin Peaks, Blue Jay and Cedar Glen. Lake Arrowhead proper is pricey bbut the surrounding towns are reasonable.

I would agree that Arrowhead area has a village feel, more so than Big Bear which really has too many tourists in the summer and too many idiots coming up when it snows.
