Are there many petrol station around the city?

We will be hiring a vehicle and I just wondered if petrol stations are plentiful or are there only a few on the outskirts of the city? We are staying in Santa Monica initially and then Bev Hills. Thanks

Are there many petrol station around the city?

Yes, they are all over the place. It won%26#39;t be a problem in either area.

hi, if by petrol, you mean , unleaded gasoline yes they%26#39;re all over.! almost all stations also have diesel, too but your rental car will probably just be using unleaded gas..

sta. monica, beverly hills are all very urban (and nicer!!!), even though they are not close to the city of los angeles downtown proper.

oops, i did not mean to sound that beverly hills and sta monica is that far from city of LA! these are all great places to stay! they are all in LA county (LA as tourists know it)

After you get here you are going to laugh when you remember that you asked this question.

not really a bad question, we were in NYC for 5 days and only saw one the entire trip. Hard to understand the LA love for cars till you get here, if it is more than a half a block away we drive.

They are everywhere, but in Santa Monica, the least expensive are on Lincoln Blvd, just near the 10 freeway. Cloverfield, near the 10, is another inexpensive spot. There%26#39;s an Arco on Pico and 4th that is always lower in price than other spots, but you have to pay in cash. Don%26#39;t buy your gas in Beverly Hills, it%26#39;s about 15cents more per gallon (our petrol stations sell per gallon, not litre), but you%26#39;ll see lots of gas stations in surrounding areas.

Thanks so much. In central London there are not that many as lots of have been knocked down and flats build in their place -property prices make people go crazy!!!!

In that gas can cost as much as 70 cents a gallon more from one station to another, maybe you want to plan where to get it.

Some things to keep in mind:

Your car hire company should give you a vehicle with a full tank of petrol. They may also ask you if you would like to buy a tank of petrol from them. They usually have the prices published in the office and will inform you of what the cost per gallon is in relationship to the cost of surrounding gas stations. Since you must bring your vehicle back with as much gas (petrol) as when you picked it up, buying the gas from them means that you will not have to find a petrol station before returning and fill the tank to the same level as when you picked it up. I have been told that the cost can be adjusted on your final bill if you return with petrol in the vehicle. (In other words, there is no need to worry about the tank being at a different level upon return if you have purchased a gas from them.)

You will find that many petrol stations also have little mini-marts attached and this is convenient as you can buy coffee, snacks, both fountain sodas and bottled sodas, hot dogs, candy, cigarettes. Some are larger than others. Some have very good hot dogs! If your car happens to get dirty for any reason and you wish to have it washed, some petrol stations have car washes attached to them.

You pay inside before you pump and pump it yourself. The pumps are designed, by law, to eliminate spills and fumes. If they seem a little strange to use, ask anyone and they will help you figure it out. (tip- ask the car hire agent how to open the gas tank because some vehicles are hard to figure out and if you ask, you will know in advance - less frustrating) Most people guess at how much the total for the petrol will be and give the cashier that amount. The pump will not allow you to continue if either the tank is full or the amount you requested is reached. (I don%26#39;t know if this is the same in the UK.) Then if you need change, you can go back inside and ask for it by giving the clerk the number on your pump. An easier way to pay is to give the clerk a credit card and say you want a certain amount of money for petrol on that pump. If you actually buy less, you are automatically charged for less and don%26#39;t have to request the refund as with cash.
