Hi
we are coming from australia and are thinking about driving in los angeles on our next trip we are a little hesitant because of the heavy traffic and different road rules and not mention driving on the other side of the road has anybody done this for the first time and can they give us some tips and information on driving with an australian licence, do we need an international licence we will only be there for 3 weeks.
We wil be starting in West Hollywood hoping to drive to Malibu and tempted to drive to Vegas???
We appreciate any feedback thank you for your time

driving in los angeles
I first drove in America over 15 years ago and have driven many times since. When you first get into the car ,just get use to it ,set your mirrors that sort of thing. And just remember your left and right turns, thinking back most of my little mistakes were made driving around in car parks not on the open road.I don%26#39;t know your roads rules but for us from the UK what is different. They are able to turn right on a red traffic light after coming to a complete stop. They overtake on motorways on either side of you, also get into the lane you need early as exits can be a little confusing. Our normal driving licence is fine for the USA so i presume its the same for you.

Brisa, you have two basic options when driving from West Hollywood to Malibu. You can surface street it all the way to PCH. Sunset Blvd would be my choice of street, and it ends at PCH just a touch south of Malibu.
Or take the 10 Freeway, which dumps out in Santa Monica. This is farther south than Sunset, but makes for a pleasant drive up PCH to Malibu. Personally, I%26#39;d opt for Sunset.
As for driving to Vegas, I%26#39;m assuming you mean driving from Malibu. Depending on when you leave, and I would suggest if you%26#39;re heading there during the work week, let the morning rush hour traffic clear out first (9:30, 10:00 or so), then begin your drive. If you can%26#39;t leave until the weekend, I%26#39;d suggest waiting until Saturday morning, and head out as early as you%26#39;re willing to wake up.
The simplest way would be to take the 10 east to the 15 north. That%26#39;s it, two freeways, no messing around.
