flying from SF %26amp; want to drive Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz....any ideas?
Also when%26#39;s best time to travel to see surfing events in Santa Cruz?
From SF to Santa Cruz
We took 1 all the way, can%26#39;t remember the details, I wasn%26#39;t the driver, we just hooked up with it from FW area, it is easy. I don%26#39;t know the best time to see surfing events, but when we stopped in Santa Cruz in late July we watched surfers at I think it is called Streamer Lane or something like that.
From SF to Santa Cruz
It%26#39;s easy to get onto Highway 1 from SF. Then just drive. Steamer Lane is one of the easiest places to watch surfers in Santa Cruz. Just go there. If you%26#39;re traveling in the winter... like now, Mavericks is the spot for big wave surfing, when the storms are coming in.

lorbell wawnts to 芦drive Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz禄

You will see surfers around Moss Beach, perhaps even farther North, before you get to Half Moon Bay. Surfers are also likely to be at The Beach here.
I believe, but do not know, that the best surfing near Santa Cruz is in Capitola, perhaps five miles farther along the Cabrillo Highway.
Santa Cruz also has an excellent roller-coaster with the best tunnel of any of the more than a hundred of my acquaintance.
Capitola is a quiet little outlet for the river and a good place to bring your toddlers to the beach. Go to Steamer Lane (this is not a street) by driving to West Cliff Drive to see the surfers.
Something that I do is order free visitor guides from city%26#39;s I am visiting, online. You could always google to find url, putting ';Santa Cruz visitors guide'; in the search engine. You can learn a lot this way. Also a guide book that includes Santa Cruz would also be helpful.
Your son might also enjoy this--a museum of surfing, located in an old lighthouse.

The website has links to check on local surfing conditions.
