I will be in San Francisco 24-28 Mar and would like to join an organised tour to visit Yosemite for the day.
I would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks
Yosemite day trips from San FranciscoI have to tell you that I think a day trip is a rather bad idea. Frist, you only have 4 days in San Francisco and at that, Yosemite is quite a ways away and a long drive. Staying at least overnight makes much more sense in my mind. With the round trip travel time, you really won%26#39;t have a lot of time to really see Yosemite. In my opinion, it%26#39;s probably best to save that for another trip, though Im sure others may disagree.
Yosemite day trips from San FranciscoYosemite is a 4 hour drive from SFO (on a good day).
Check star line tours www.starlinetours.com
It leaves SFO at 7am, arrives Yosemite at 1:45pm
It leaves Yosemite at 4pm and arrives SFO 830pm.
Note that you are in Yosemite only 2.5 hours... that is not much considering you are travelling 7am-9pm (14 hours). Maybe consider an overnight if you really want to head out that far.
Yosemite is beautiful and I would suggest anyone to visit it. :)
Happy Travels
I agree with others, try to stay overnight. Two and a half hours is not enough for Yosemite. We were there on New Year%26#39;s Day for the entire day and wished we had more time there. So much to see and do! :)
There%26#39;s a debate on this forum about the value of going to Yosemite for only one day. Most locals think it%26#39;s such a shame to go all the way up there only to have to turn around and come back -- everyone ends up wishing they could have stayed longer. Then some travelers have weighed in saying, all things considered (including the very very long day), they%26#39;re glad they went up and saw a tiny piece of Yosemite, even though it was short.
That%26#39;s the short version.
You can search for ';Yosemite'; and tours on this forum and find some good recommendations, including from some who took specific tour lines, can compare between the comfort of the buses versus the vans.
Thanks for all your input I will check out the forum for others who have done day drips.
I%26#39;ve been in SF last Easter for 9 days and i went on a day tour to Yosemite. Although I enjoyed the park, I really agree a day%26#39;s tour isn%26#39;t not worth it, considering the time consumed on the journey to get there, the costs and the short time left to stay there. Most probably you won%26#39;t even have a chance to get a glimpse of the giant sequoias and you%26#39;ll spent most of your time at the village shop or watching the documentary at the theatre, specially if it%26#39;s raining. Considering you%26#39;ll only have 4 days in SF, my advice is make the most of your stay in town, as there are plenty of nice places and attractions to visit there (Alcatraz, Coit Tower, Legion of Honour, Moma, Haas Lilienthal, Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf just to name a few), and leave Yosemite for a more extended visit.
Hi Solesta,
I took a one day Yosemite tour with Extranomical. I agree that one day is kind of short but we spent about 5 hours in the park so we got to see the waterfalls, El Capitan and even the giant sequoias which were amazing! Since we didn%26#39;t have a lot of time in San Francisco, that was the best option we could find. There were, however, people on the same tour who had stayed in Yosemite overnight and we picked them up before we left the valley. So extranomical also offers overnight tours if you have time.
Hi
I would highly recommend Yosemite-Tours, I travelled to Yosemite with 11 other people along with my wife and I was just blown away with the experience of Yosemite!

Our tour guide Ralph was amazing, he stopped at El Capitan, Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Yosemite Falls for amazin photographs. He also took special requests from us and the other people on the van by stopping at certain places etc.
The day started off by Ralph collecting us at 6.30am at the Mark Twain, and collected the rest of the guests along the way. We arrived at yosemite around 11am, but the adventure started the moment we got into the van! Interesting facts about the bay bridge, oakland, dublin pleasonton, San Joaquin valley and Sierra Nevada range were amazing. We weren%26#39;t able to see the Giant Sequoias grove due to the snow levels, but we didn%26#39;t mind because we just seen more parts of the park!
The tour lasted all day, but it was an unforgetful day, and it will always be remembered on how good it was!

Both Extranomical and Yosemite-tours get good reviews here, If there is any way you can spend the night, do so, but otherwise, try not to miss Yosemite! The one exception would be if the only day you could go was a rainy one, since many of the amazing vistas that you would be driving 4 hours to see would be blocked out.
If you%26#39;d like more info, be sure to check us out at the Yosemite National Park forum.
