I%26#39;ll be heading off to Los Angeles once again next Tuesday (super excited to finally get back!) and will be staying at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. I%26#39;m just wondering if anybody can recommend a really good place for sushi. I%26#39;m adventurous myself when it comes to it, but other people I%26#39;m with will touch nothing more than a California Roll (or Cucumber, Avocado roll). So as long as we can find something good for everyone, in one place, that would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Will you have a car, and if so, how far are you willing to drive?

No, but, I%26#39;m one of those people who will go up and way out of my way for the promise of good food.
Well, I asked about a car b/c there are some really good places in Studio City/Sherman Oaks, but it%26#39;s not easy to catch a cab back from those places.
In Hollywood and Highland, there is Koji%26#39;s Shabu Shabu, which also has sushi (and sushi happy hour). The sushi is decent, the shabu shabu is actually pretty good. Lots of safe choices. Obviously not the best pick if you%26#39;re looking for great sushi.
A choice that comes highly recommended on chowhound.com is Sushi Ike, 6051 Hollywood Blvd b/w Gower and Bronson. It would be easy to catch a cab back from this place. Reservations recommended/needed.
Azami sushi is an all-female run sushi bar on Melrose, 7160 b/w La Brea and Gardner. Also easy to get a cab back from there. For the adventuresome, you should get omakase (chef%26#39;s choice), but they will also be able to do the ';safe'; sushi. Make reservations.
Downtown, R-23 is at 923 E 3rd St. (actually in an alleyway/loading dock). Cool restaurant designed by Frank Gehry. You could take the Red Line Metro to Union Station, then a very short cab ride to the restaurant. If you go there, you MUST try the seared salmon sushi. Even your friends would like it b/c it%26#39;s cooked.
Koi is at 730 N La Cienega Blvd, West Hollywood. Easy to get a cab. Fairly decent food, given the number of young Hollywood celebrities who hang out here. Try the spicy tuna on crispy rice! They also have cooked dishes for the truly unadventurous.
You really need reservations for all the places, so if you can, try to call before you leave. A lot of these places are small and packed, even on weeknights.
Anywhere in Little Tokyo!!
You really should post this question on chowhound.com
