Hello, i was hoping someone could help with any information on a homestyle farmstay- the type where you stay in the same house as your farming host, eat meals together, etc. Similar to what my husband and I do here in New Zealand on our beef farm, we are starting to tentatively plan our holiday of a lifetime maybe in 2009, any ideas appreciated.
Any ';homestyle'; farmstays?
Hi. Farmstays are not something I hear about a lot in California, but you got me interested, so I did a search and found this site:

I don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s what you%26#39;re looking for, but it%26#39;s a place to start. Good luck--sounds like a great idea!
Any ';homestyle'; farmstays?
Thanks pgdenizen, it%26#39;s not quite what we are after- we are an 1100 acre beef farm and were looking for a similar experience in california- california because we want to visit some people we met who live in escondido, but anywhere in california or maybe a neighbouring state would be great- thanks all the same though
We tend to call cattle farms';ranches'; so a search of guest ranches led me to:

Hi HNI, in N. Ca. there are several what we call dude ranches there you stay and experience the western ranch life. Wyoming and Colorado also have these closest thing to a home stay.
I%26#39;ve stayed on farmstays in NZ and Austrailia. The US does not typically provide anything that would compare. They tend to be much more commercial (and expensive) then what you might be used to.
This is called agritourism in California. There are many websites with info but here are a few to start.
The Univ of California has a website listing a number of farms
http://calagtour.org/AgTour.ASP
click the link to search the database for farms and ranches with accomodations.
There are also regional agritourism sites around the state, a few would be:
On the San Luis Obispo/Central Coast

Central Valley and foothills
