We%26#39;ve been vacationing in Palm Desert for many years and we%26#39;re looking for some suggestions for day-trips. We%26#39;ve seen Joshua Tree, the aerial tram, the Cabazon shops, etc. I thought maybe the Salton Sea would be a possiblity but I know almost nothing about that area. Does anyone have any interesting new ideas? Thanks!
Day Trips from Palm Desert
Looping around the Salton Sea is certainly interesting. There are all sorts of strange little towns worth of careful investigation.
Also to the south is Borrego Springs, which is worth the trip.
And, try driving up into the mountains on the Palms To Pines Highway. If you like mountain driving, spin on over to Julian (quite a drive) for some apple pie.

Do the Living Desert Zoo in Palm Spirngs, the animals are so amazing and different than a normal zoo, and they let you go in an animal hospital and visit the animals that are injured. The owel ';Hootie'; was so sweet.

I second the vote for Borrego Springs! It is best in April when the wildflowers are in bloom but that whole area is incredble- there are many scenic viewpoints off the highway (a couple miles off the highwayon good dirt roads) - grab a map at the Borrego Springs visitor center and head out-there are some areas out there that look like they belong on another planet. Hopefully you can get out in the dirt a bit- you would be well on the way to Julian if you could overnight, or perhaps a trip to Oak Glen above Beaumont- another apple orchard-centric area thats nice. Rileys Farm in Oak Glen may have a website.
Hope this helps to keep you out of those Casinos....!
