We are coming to San Diego for a week at the end of March and were thinking of staying at the Hampton Inn at SeaWorld or the on on Kearny Mesa Rd. Which would be nicer? We will have a car and be traveling around the area quite a bit.
Thanks!
San Diego Hotels
I don%26#39;t think either area is particularly pretty but I think the ';SeaWorld';location (which is not really AT Seaworld) would be more centrally located. They are both pretty busy areas. With a car you should be able to get all over easily. Have you looked at the BayClub or the Best Western Island Palms in ou rShelter Island area which is similar in price I think, but has a bay view and gives the real feel of SanDiego?
San Diego Hotels
Thanks for answering so quickly, riffsmom! We were looking at Hampton Inns because my parents are traveling with us and they typically stay in Hamptons. So I was worried about finding some place where they would feel comfortable. I have read a lot of the reviews about San Diego hotels and find it frustratingly impossible to choose a hotel based on widely varying opinions. We have relatives who live in Crest and will also be driving all around to see the sights. I will check out the two hotels you recommended - if you have any other ideas, I would appreciate hearing them. (I was really hoping for a nice place to stay around $100-120 a night.
Thanks, again!
I called Bay Club today and got rooms for $129
I don%26#39;t have any knowledge of the Hampton Inns, but would like to suggest the Red Lion Hanalei on Hotel Circle (North). I have stayed there each summer for 10 years. This is a nice hotel with a family atmosphere and a fun Hawaiian theme. It is centrally located in Mission Valley off of the 8 freeway, which is the freeway you take to get to Sea World and is close to Old Town as well. It is also close to the 163 freeway interchange and a few minutes from the SD Zoo and Balboa Park. Downtown and the harbor (Seaport Village and Maritime Museums) can be reached by staying on the 163 freeway South til it ends and traveling a short distance on Ash St. to Harbor. It is also easy to get to Coronado from the Hanalei.
Typically rates on their website are higher than their rates with the AAA discounts and AARP discounts. So calling their 800 number would be good. You may also find a specials on the Internet or you could call your AAA club office if you are a member.
If you click on my user name, you wiil get to my profile. I have written a review of the Red Lion Hanalei and you can click on that. From there you can also see other reviews and photos. I also have to give Red Lion kudos because on my latest stay I was very disappointed (for the first time) and wrote to the CEO about it. I was refunded the amount of my stay and assured the problems will be fixed.
I have read that the Islands Restaurant within the hotel has closed for remodeling, but they may be open now. The hotel%26#39;s family restaurant, the Peacock Cafe, remains open as well as the Islands Lounge and Sushi Bar.
