I am so confused. I%26#39;ve read lots and lots of posts, but just can%26#39;t seem to know what to do. 3 of us (2 teens) will be traveling from San Francisco to Yosemite in June. (We are spending 3 nights in San Francisco). I%26#39;ve checked with lodging in the park and not much is available. We plan on staying 3 nights during the week near Yosemite and then returning to San Francisco to the airport. I really don%26#39;t want to spend a ton because we are rather frugal, however I know that prices are at least $100-$200 per night. I basically am looking for a safe, clean place to stay. We usually have a cooler with food, so nearby restaurants aren%26#39;t so important. Any advice would be truly appreciated.
San Francisco to YosemiteSince it sounds like you don%26#39;t mind cooking, you can probably save money if you get a place that has a kitchen so that you can prepare your own meals. You might try www.VRBO.com and see what you can find. If you are comng from San Francisco, try places in Groveland or Mariposa. Those in Mariposa are closest to the Arch Rock entrance that leads to Yosemite Valley. Those in Groveland are closest to the Big Oak Flat entrance that leads to the high country which should be open mid to late June. You might also try www.yosemite.com.
Best of luck...
San Francisco to YosemiteWhile there is great lodging in MAriposa and Groveland they are both a good drive to teh valley and further to ther sights. Check out El Portal which is righ toutside the west entrance (arch Rock). Both Cedar Grove and Yosemite View are located there. You can also keep checking http://www.yosemitepark.com/ for lodging in the park.
Yes, I agree that Yosemite View is the closest motel to Yosemite Valley. But as far as I know, it does not have kitchens. I have stayed there before and it is a basic motel and nothing fancy, but clean. I have not stayed at Cedar Lodge (I think the previous post meant to say Cedar Lodge and not Cedar Grove) and it is comparable to Yosemite View. I personally don%26#39;t mind driving since I know I will be driving lots anyway in June to get to the high country. But it is all a matter of choice. I would prefer to get away from the crowds and rent a cabin outside the Park. But if you don%26#39;t mind crowds and want basic accommodations I would choose Yosemite View. They do have a restaurant and again it is nothing fancy but reasonable and okay. And if you don%26#39;t mind the crowds, don%26#39;t forget to try for cancellations at Yosemite Lodge inside the Park. I would suggest making reservations at Yosemite View, knowing that you can cancel them if you find something available on short notice inside the Park.
Enjoy your visit!
Sunset Inn just off highway 120 and only 2 miles from the entrance to Yosemite might be a good option. It would fit your price and they have a family cabin that would fit your party. It is a lovely setting! www.StayNearYosemite.com can offer additional details and direct links.
Have a bunches of fun.
