Hotel

What%26#39;s the best hotel in Sausalito? Or can you recommend anything better near Point Reyes? We will be going in December? THANKS

Hotel

Casa Madrona and Inn Above Tide have been mentioned often for Sausalito, but check the reviews and perhaps do a search to find the threads where hotels in Sausalito were mentioned.

Hotel

Inn Above Tide has certainly rec%26#39;d lots of acclaim. It looks like a nondescript motel from the st., but the views and interior are fantastic! It is quite pricey. We%26#39;ve stayed at both Casa Madrona (www.casamadrona.com) and the Alta Mira (www.sausalitoaltamira.com) and they are wonderful historic hotels. Alta Mira is loc%26#39;d up a hill from town, but still a short walk to the waterfront, restaurants and shops. The views from there are absolutely fantastic. Dec. would not be my favorite month for a stay at Pt. Reyes since that location is all about being outdoors and in Dec. you do risk being there in some significant rain. We very much liked the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge which is walking distance to the Nat%26#39;l Seashore%26#39;s visitors ctr. I%26#39;ve written reviews on all 3 places of lodging, so you can read those on TripAdvisor.

We have stayed in both Casa Madrona and Alta Mira in Sausalito and they are both interesting properties with amazing views from some units. Their accomodations vary drastically from room to room and they also have both had management and policy shifts in recent years so question them carefully about renovations, views, policy etc if you opt for them. You could really like either or not like them at all. We are trying out the Mill Valley Inn a little down the road next month. It is a little inn in downtown Mill Valley which is adjacent to a redwood forested park and from there a trail rises to a part of the Mt Tam hiking network. They have a couple of sister hotels in Marin County which look pretty good. You might google the MV Inn and check these out. The other place which really interests me, but I have not tried it, is the Mountain Home Inn. It is apparently high on a Mount Tam ridge and looks knock out in their ads.
