New Inside Page -- Traveling to Yosemite by Train and Bus

Hi, everyone!

I%26#39;ve created a new Inside Page, ';Traveling to Yosemite by Train and Bus.';

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g61000-c64594/Yosemit鈥?/a>

I%26#39;ll add the schedules later today. The method for entering the information on an Inside Page is a bit awkward. I have to do it in stages.

I hope the information is helpful to you.

Excellent information. You can also get to Yosemite from San Francisco close to where most of the hotels are: Amtrak buses leave from near Union Square, Embarcadero, and Fishermans Wharf to connect with the San Joaquin trains. Buses leave ~ Union Square at 6:35am and 12:05pm. Unfortunately, the bus/train/bus trip takes longer than driving a car.

Thanks for your kind words. I%26#39;ll be adding the schedules in stages for many cities in California. The interface that enables one to create Inside Pages is a bit awkward to use, making formatting of the pages diffucult.

I know that the train and bus combination takes longer, but some visitors to Yosemite don%26#39;t want to drive or don%26#39;t have a drivers license; others are too young to rent a car in the United States -- they%26#39;re younger than 25; others want to travel at night, sleeping on the train / bus so they arrive earlier in the day than if they were to drive; others don%26#39;t want to drive a car with left-hand drive and drive on the right side of the road.

I%26#39;ve added more train / bus schedules to my Inside Page, ';Traveling to Yosemite by Train and Bus.';

Here%26#39;s the link:

If anyone has suggestions of schedules for me to add, please let me know. Thanks!

Nice job, I know it is a lot of work. Just a couple of ideas for you, some of these you may already have in process.

Besides the amtrak.com link I like amtrakcalifornia.com which the state of California has. It is a little more focused and easier for people who may not be familiar with US geography.

You might consider playing with BART schedules to Richmond. BART and Amtrak are side by side there and I%26#39;ve used that as a transfer before. That might even make a nice connection from SFO and OAK to Yosemite or back.

I%26#39;d also add Santa Maria/San Luis Obispo/Paso Robles to Yosemite. The routing is bus to Hanford. Then train to Merced. It would also be an alternate from Santa Barbara, just take the train north to San Luis Obispo.

I%26#39;ve heard as an alternate that using the ACE commuter trains between San Jose and Stockton is possible but have not checked the schedules.

Lastly the Tahoe area seems to be on many vacation plans so the connections from both South Shore and Reno/North Shore might be another addition.

Thanks for your kind words and your suggestions, Fresno. Some of your suggestions were ones I was going to look into; some I hadn%26#39;t thought of.

I had even thought of adding the Fresno to Merced (train) / Merced to Yosemite (bus) schedule!

We took the train / bus combination last July, but only went as far as Fresno on the train. We began our planning too late and could only get an accommodation reservation in Mariposa. There were no rental cars left in Merced, so we had to rent the car in Fresno. We drove 700 miles round-trip from Fresno during our five-day Yosemite trip.

This year, we%26#39;re parking our car at the Irvine train station. We%26#39;ll be taking the Amtrak from Irvine and getting off the bus at Yosemite Lodge -- where we have five nights booked.

You%26#39;re quite welcome, juday.

I%26#39;m trying to find the time to add a few more schedules. FresnoFacts gave me some suggestions of schedules to add
