Oakhurst

I have had so much helpful advice from you guys, can I just ask about Oakhurst. We are going to stay in Oakhurst for our visit to Yosemite - is it a nice safe community to stay in?

Oakhurst

Oakhurst is a town with a population of less than 3,000 (excluding the tourists in the motels during the summer). It dates from the late 19th century and has a collection of historic buildings. There is a park for picnics and a museum with guided tours, and a research library. Couldn%26#39;t be much safer, I would say. Enjoy.

We stopped in Oakhurst in Jan. on our way to Yosemite and were frankly dismayed at the changes and development that has gone on. It%26#39;s certainly no longer the quaint Gold Rush town of the past. Unfortunately, the newer buildings and commercial developments are of the generic ';Valley town'; variety, not at all in keeping with its historic background. Quite a shame. That being said, people did seem friendly and nice. I don%26#39;t have any specific info. about crime statistics, but since it receives a heavy concentration of travelers passing thru, the usual precautions like locking your vehicle and not leaving valuables in your room would apply.

it%26#39;s fine...i wouldn%26#39;t call it quaint or anything but i feel safe there, certainly.
