Pebble Beach

Just booked our vacation to SF for the second week of October. Looking forward to it bigtime! Have a question regarding Pebble Beach. As a golfer it has always been my dream to play this most famous of golf courses, but after finding out the cost ($475 +), it has been put on the no-can-do list. However, we are still planning to take a day and rent a car and drive down to the Monteray area. Does anyone know if you can get in the lodge at Pebble Beach and maybe at least catch a glimpse of the 18th hole? I figure if I can%26#39;t afford to lay the course maybe I can at least get a glimpse of the most famous hole in golf.

I don%26#39;t really know how much you can see from the Lodge. Someone else may know. You have to pay a gate fee to get into Pebble Beach--$8.50--but if you have a meal, the restaurants in Pebble will validate. Lunch at Stillwater Grille at the Lodge is nice--great views. If you want to golf in a beautiful area but don%26#39;t want the huge fees, consider the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course.

Anybody can get into the lodge at pebble beach, not sure if you will be able to see much of the course from there though. I think you can see the tee boxes and look down the fairway though.

you would need to pay a car fee to get into the area. btw, there are a few other excellent golf courses in the area that aren%26#39;t as pricey as pebble beach such as spyglass and spanish bay (I forget if there are others and what their names were). I asked around, some people say that pebble beach isn%26#39;t that great a course but has the history and the other courses have nice views and challenging too.

Also, if you do the 17 mile drive (I forget was it 17 or 21?) you can also drive past the other courses. very nice and you can see the ritzy houses in the area too. october should be a great time of the year, i went then too and it was a little nippy in the mornings but very comfortable the rest of the time.

I%26#39;m travelling from Australia to San Francisco at the end of this month and was also keen on checking out Pebble Beach but not to play it. I wont be hiring a car so does anyone know of another way to get there and once there will i be able to see the lone cypress?

My avid golfer boyfriend and I made the trip down and took the 17 mile drive last fall and I thought itwas great even though I don%26#39;t golf. You get a map and some information when you pay the entrance fee and you can lunch in any of the restaurants. We also visited the Pro Shop ( you can by logo stuff there but it is expensive). I can%26#39;t recall which holes we saw ( John would remember all of them ) , but we saw many and watched groups teeing off. We had lunch at the Gallery Grill , which is very casual but was just what we wanted- I had a great crabmeat quesadilla and he had a very generous burger and we had beers. It wasn%26#39;t inexpensive there either which is why we chose one of the lower end spots. We paid by credit card and when we got back to San Francisco I was embarrased to see that I had absentmindedly stuck the Pebble Beach Lodge ballpoint pen in my purse . I am famous for doing this - I have one in my possesssion that actually says Federal Bureau of Investigation and have no idea where I got it( please don%26#39;t send the G Men)

Anyway it was a great day- we drove down the beach road , which I understand can be quite foggy and dangerous but we had a gorgeous day. Coming back we used the interstate and ran into a real traffic jam - I think near San Jose- it was a Sunday early evening - not sure if theer was a special event happening.

At any rate, John enjoyed seeing the golf course and I enjoyed seeing the homes and the Ocean, so it all worked out well. We, however had no idea that you could present your dining check and get the entrance fee back, so I guess we paid for that pen after all!

Lulu, I%26#39;ve emailed Pebble Beach and told them where they can hunt you down to get their pen back! LOL Glad you enjoyed Pebble Beach. I think it%26#39;s a beautiful place.

Does anyone know of any public transport or shuttle service that goes to Pebble Beach as i wont be hiring a car. I dont want to join a tour to get there as Pebble Beach is all i want to see. Thanks so much!
