Los Angeles is a HUGE metropolitan area with millions of people and over 100 different communities. Prices range from really, really cheap to really, really expensive.

How much can you afford to pay per month?

Will you have a car or will you have to depend on public transportation?

I have heard that getting a GOOD bartending job is difficult since there is a lot of bartenders out there fighting over a relatively small number of jobs.

You shouldn%26#39;t have any trouble finding out how much CNAs make: Go to one the sites that utilizes the U.S. Census data, like this one:

http://tinyurl.com/dhj2q

The site says the hourly rate for CNAs in California is between $9.07 and $12.09 depending on experience. If you put in a zip code where indicated (Use 90046 for a central zip code) you%26#39;ll get job listings -- most of whom do not show wages but you can send your resume just the same and see what they offer you.

Other good places to try for placement as a CNA are:

Hospitals

Convalescent Homes

the Veteran%26#39;s Administration

City Government

1 bedroom apartments start at around $700/month with $1200-$1500 being the average in good, ';close by'; neighborhoods. If you%26#39;re willing to live outside the city (or in an area that isn%26#39;t that nice) you can spend closer to $700

Good luck!

';Best'; and ';cheapest'; are impossible in the same neighborhood, but I know what you mean. Look at somewhere near the beach. The south bay beaches (Hermosa, Manhattan, etc.) are good choices. Plan on getting a roomate or three. Check craigslist for roomates.

Anything in the medical field is in demand right now. Hopskip gave great advice in sending your application or resume to hospitals, nursing homes, etc. some of the places are in need to fill positions.

One of the best places to live in LA are in the beach communities. I agree with Easy%26#39;s advice. Look into Santa Monica, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach. Rents here are expensive but find a roommate or roommates to share the rent. There%26#39;s many bars in these beach communities if you decide to get a job as a bartender.

DailyBruin.com is UCLA student newspaper. Lots of students leave in the summer and try to rent out their room for two months. If you can get a sublet like this, it would be a good way to introduce yourself to the area, and UCLA hospital is right there around the corner. Rents are high in the area but if you share with 2 or 3 for the summer or find a decent sublet, you could give it a try.
