My husband and I are arriving in SD March 9th for 4 nights before driving to visit relatives in other parts of CA. You have given me some advice for staying at the above locations. We are ';young'; 60%26#39;s, no kids, and seasoned travelers. La Jolla seemed to me to be an interesting possibility. Moderate price range:around $200 or less.
We would like a quiet place with pleasant ambience that has 2 beds, parking (free or reasonable), breakfast (or easy access to breakfast places). We%26#39;re from Buffalo so we don%26#39;t get to see the Pacific every day and thought a beach location with restaurants close by would be ideal, but open to suggestions. I looked at the B%26amp;B In at La Jolla which does have one 2-bed room, Humphrey%26#39;s Half Moon Inn and Suites (is this too family/kid oriented and concerned about all the concerts going on),the Kona Koi resort, Best Western Island Palms and the Glorietta Bay Inn and suites.
Could I hear from peole who have stayed at these places? What would you recommend as a good touring base for first time visitors? Something with a little ambiance but not too stuffy.
I am conversant with all of the wonderful tourist attractions but would also be interested in any insider%26#39;s tips on special neighborhoods, places not to miss.
A re ther any opinions on other comfortable places to stay in La Jolla? Having all the restaurants in town sounds appealing and were planning to see the University anyway.
La Jolla, Shelter Island or Coronado?
I%26#39;d say La Jolla or Coronado, Shelter Island is off by itself and there are not a lot of places to walk to. Of the two, Coronado and La Jolla, I%26#39;d pick La Jolla for ease of walking to a variety of restaurants, the shops, people watching, and ocean shore variety, there are wide sandy beaches but there are also cliffs and coves. It%26#39;s also much more convenient to UCSD.
There are many on this board who know hotels much better than I do. (And a few that really like Coronado, so you%26#39;ll hear differing opinions) I was mostly trying to bump this to the top.
Have fun.
