downtown

will be spending 4 days in san siego inearly march and am thinking of basing myself downtown. would like to saty in a hotel on tha bayfront or close by. any tips.

i have a spend of approx 150 per night.

what is the holiday inn like or the bayside best western. i was also looking at the humphreys half moon or the bay club hotel and marina but are they too far away fron the centre of things. no car.

Holiday Inn on the Bay is just across the street from the bay - relatively nice; and BW Bayside is also nice, a couple blocks further from the bay. There%26#39;s also another Holiday Inn - further from the bay, but still manageable - Holiday in Harbor View - on 1st %26amp; Cedar, it has good balcony views, and might be a bit less expensive - about 10 blocks from the bay.

Also checkout our Little Italy area - La Pensione - about 4 blocks from the bay - also Porto Vista in Little Italy - about 5 blocks. There%26#39;s also a Radisson Harbor View in the area as well. A few more that I recently walked by when I was downtown that looked okay, less expensive, but a bit more motel-like. You might want to checkout Harborview Inn %26amp; Suites on Grape, about 8 blocks from the bay, Pacific Inn Hotel %26amp; Suites and Days Inn Harbor View - both on Pacific Highway about 4 blocks from the bay.

Humphrey%26#39;s and Bay Club are nice, but as you suspected, too far away to be convenient (about 3-4 miles).

downtown

thank you chassis. should have proof read my post. anyway 4 days in san diego what would you recommend doing. remember no car.

Just got back from a weekend at the Holiday Inn Harborview. No harbor views in our room, but it is 4-5 blocks from the trolley station and Little Italy. Lots of places to eat in Little Italy plus a few bars. It%26#39;s also a long walk from the Gaslamp and Balboa Park. I got it for $60/night on Hotwire, but you never what you%26#39;ll get on there. It was retailing (Holiday Inn%26#39;s web site) for $130/night when we were there. You may want to look into some of the Gaslamp hotels because you%26#39;ll be more in the thick of things but still be close to the trolley.

San Diego is difficult without a car because a lot of the sites are not on the trolley line, namely Balboa Park, Cabrillo NM, La Jolla, Mount Soledad, Hillcrest, Coronado, etc. However, all of the aforementioned spots are accessible by bus (but not Cabrillo%26#39;s excellent tidepools) except for Mount Soledad, but I%26#39;d say you could skip that anyway. The Transit Store Downtown sells multi-day bus and trolley passes (sdcommute.com/Rider_Information/…dt) which would be your best option.

I just got 3 nites at the Omni (rated #3 on tripadvisor) at $98/nite on priceline.com. Am very pleased. Read some tips on biddingfortravel.com (great site) and then went to bid on priceline through a link on amazing-bargains.com.

Just be sure to limit your search to four star hotels, select ';downtown'; first and then rebid by adding a different area (except San Diego Coastal or Coronado since they also have 4 stars available). Try starting at $90 and going up in $3 or $4 increments. It%26#39;s all on biddingfortravel.com
