I love the sound of the elsbree bed and breakfast. can anyone give me any info on the b and b and the surrounding area as I have never been to San Diego before. I%26#39;m looking for close to beach, quiet but with somewhere to walk and a good choice of eateries close by. thanks
elsbree house bed and breakfastI haven%26#39;t been to this b%26amp;b, so my comments are very general in nature and limited to the neighborhood.
OB is the Key West of San Diego. It is a little bit remote -- i.e. off the beaten path and not close into many of the primary tourist attractions. However, having said that, nothing is very distant in San Diego due to our extensive freeway network. Sea World is probably 20 minutes door to door. Same with Balboa Park and Downtown area.
However, you are near a nice beach area. There is the sandy beach at the foot of Newport. There are tidepools and cliffs at the end of Narragansett. There are also additional stunning ocean views a few blocks up Sunset Cliffs.
You are a block or two from the main street of Ocean Beach. There is a grocery, restaurants, antique shops, our city%26#39;s largest %26#39;head%26#39; shop (do we still say that?) and a collection of bars (some pleasantly seedy).
Some people would find the mix of alternative lifestyles, students, surfers etc a negative thing. This is not Coronado or La Jolla. If you have a care (recommended), you may find parking difficult if the condo does not include an off street parking space. You may also notice a certain rowdiness -- not unlike some parts of the Gaslamp downtown.
elsbree house bed and breakfastI actually did not even know that this B%26amp;Bwas in existence so I cannot tell you if it is a good one. The reviews on this site say the location is good, the bkfst skimpy and the decor';cutesy';.
I can speak to the location. My husband and I like OceanBeach. It is a city neighborhood with a small town surfy/hippy feel. There is only 1 other hotel and 1 B%26amp;b that I know of so mainly residents live there and go there. They have a farmers market once a week where they close the main street and it is fun. There are also many antique stores to browse along the main street. In addition there are restaurants. It is not a fancy neighborhood. My friends take their dogs to the ';dog beach'; that is in one section. Getting in and out can be a little traficky but the same holds true for la Jolla. The OceanBeach Hotel is also there and a little further away from the beach and restaurants is the Inn at Sunset Cliffs.
