Late March arrivel ( 22nd ) ad a budget of $2,500 per couple, we%26#39;re two late 50%26#39;s bon vivant couples in good health but woefully clueless about the area. I definitely want to immerse myself in the Pacific at some point . Local joints and art and cuisine (?) are our cup of tea, maybe some time on the water too. We%26#39;ll have a rental van so some excursioning is hopefully in the cards too. Any suggestions helpful. What about a cottage or beach home rental? Possible on that budget?
Thanks for attention to this request.

For houses you can try www.vrbo.com a site where individuals rent out their own places BUT usually for a week.
There are lots of possiblities from the Glorietta Bay inn%26amp; suites on Coronado across the bay from downtown reached by a short bridge quite easy. It is actually an old mansion with rooms in the mansion and modern suites in the courtyard. It is across the street from the ocean and the historic Hotel DelCoronado shown in the old film Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe.
There are also many downtown hotels you could choose which are near the bayfront . They range from historic US Grant and HortonGrand to the Westgate with its European elegance and the Solamar which is boutique(small) and ';hip';. There ar e also modern choices like the Omni etc.
At PacificBeach(across the street) and backing up onto quiet MissionBay Park is theCatamaran.
At La Jollacove(20min north of downtown )is L aValencia with a pool overlooking the ocean. On a cliff overlooking the ocean is the Lodge at Torrey Pines
Take a look and see which fits you r style best and you rpocketbooks and then we can make further suggestions.
