Killing time in San Diego...

My husband and I will be visiting San Diego for a quick weekend getaway. We will be staying in Solana Beach on Friday night so that we can catch our favorite band at the Belly Up Tavern and then we don%26#39;t check in to Humphrey%26#39;s Half Moon until 4 p.m. the next day. We already have window seat reservations for the Bali Hai for dinner that night.

Can anyone give me some good suggestions as to how we should spend our time between the Solana Beach check out on Saturday morning and the check in at Shelter Island that afternoon.

We took a similar trip two years ago for hubby%26#39;s birthday and spent veterans day on the Midway. My uncle used to live in Point Loma, so we%26#39;ve done the downtown, seaport village, old town, gaslamp, before. Looking for some ideas ';out of the ordinary'; perhaps.

We both love the beach and loved our stop in OB last year.

thanks in advance for your tips.

You can drive south along the ocean to Torrey Pines State Beach and State Park wher eyou can walk/hike above the beach. I fyou continue on Torrey Pines Road you will come to th eGliderport where you can watchhang gliders take off over the ocean and go tandem if you dare.

Below the glider port is Blacks Beach a famous local nude beach that you can reach by a path down the cliff.

The campus of UCSD is there where you could walk and see the outdoor sculptures. there is also an aquarium.

I fyou haven%26#39;t already walked at La Jolla Cove you should really do that too.

I fyou want to take alittle jaunt north before you turn south you could go to Quail Gardens inEncinitas or to Swamis , the retreat of the Self Realization Fellowship which is at the beach(swamis) and has nice meditation gardens open to the public.

Why not walk, bus or drive two miles south of the Belly Up to Del Mar. Seagrove Park is a small beautiful park overlooking the coast. You can walk along the beach and see the multi-million $ homes or stroll along El Camino Del Mar (old 101) and see the shops and restaurants there and at Del Mar Plaza. There are numerous places to stop for a snack, cocktail or meal.

There is free 90 minute parking along El Camino Del Mar, and without limit if you go a little further south and turn on a side street. L%26#39;Auberge Del Mar garage has longer term meter parking. All parking rules are strictly enforced however.
