Curious if anyone has any feedback on this hotel in particular - and more specifically the neighborhood. I noticed the price is pretty cheap, under $100 a night. I have a car for getting around - but dont want to be in the ';ghetto';.
Any thoughts from someone local?

Yuck. Not a neighborhood I%26#39;d want to stay when on vacation.
In that price range, consider Days Inn Sunset Blvd, Econo Lodge Sunset Boulevard, Comfort Suites on Highland, Holiday Inn on Highland, HotelCelebrity or Orchid Suites.

I wouldn%26#39;t stay there unless I was visiting someone who lived in that neighborhood. The neighborhood is refered to as ';gentrifying,'; but they%26#39;ve been saying that for years. That said, there are a lot of young families, post-college kids, very trendy, etc. who live in that neighborhood, but there%26#39;s not really anything for tourists, and it%26#39;s about 20 minutes back to Hollywood, and even farther for other attractions.
If you look at the reviews, you will see that most like this motel. It%26#39;s not that the neighborhood is that awful...I would call it marginal, but there are no attractions or restaurants worth walking to. The motel itself seems to have very good security, including free garage parking, and generally the motel seems very well run. The location is roughly midway between downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood. Personally, I recommend this motel for anyone, with a car, who is looking for budget, above average rooms.
I beg to differ with my colleagues. The neighborhood is what I%26#39;d call funky. Sunset in this stretch has really blossomed with all kinds of one of a kind shops interspersed with mom%26#39;n pop shops. Plenty of good restaurants nearby. About 10-15 years ago, this was a rough neighborhood. But, that is the past. Gentrification has changed so much of the city. This area is a prime example.
The reviews look good. I%26#39;d recommend the place, as long as you understand it is not Beverly Hills and that%26#39;s not what you want anyways.
If you check in, let us know what you think.
As I implied above, I recently stayed here and recommend this motel. Maybe there are interesting shops and restaurants within walking distance, but it didn%26#39;t look inviting to me. Also, as I said, the motel seems to have very good security (garage locks at night...they give you a pass code). But the most striking thing is the front desk is behind massive security glass, so the neighborhood can%26#39;t be that great or they wouldn%26#39;t need to do this.
Bottom line: The motel is well run and seems to have all necessary security measures in place. I felt perfectly safe at this motel. Also, if there was a reason to do so, I would feel free to walk around the neighborhood during the daytime.
