It may not be possible to get an official MUNI transit map until you arrive here. Meanwhile, you can use the PDF version that MUNI posts on the internet, which is legible if you magnify it. See www.sfmuni.com/cms/mms/maps/indxmaps.htm

You may also find non-official maps that show transit routes in an online bookstore, but they won%26#39;t be as good as the MUNI map.

Once you get to the San Francisco airport, you can pick up a BART guide (free at the BART station) that shows the BART routes along with the major downtown MUNI routes.

I avoid the use of maps in cities because the lack of %26#39;em forces me to accost people on the street for assistance. Lotsa fun.

The best on-line MAP of San Francisco is an inter-active PDF created for the San Francisco Municipal Railway: geocities.com/iconoc/Grafix/CityWide.pdf. I recommend 150% or greater magnification. There%26#39;s also a link that will tell you HOW TO GET THERE FROM HERE. Other links on the page, geocities.com/iconoc/Grafix/FlagMaps.html are a map of our CABLE CAR ROUTES and a superb map of GOLDEN GATE PARK.

I%26#39;ve found the Muni map for sale at the airport before. If it%26#39;s convenient, look for the information desks down in baggage claim. I%26#39;m not sure if all terminals have one.

If you can wait until you%26#39;re at your hotel and you are near Union Square, the map is pretty easy to find at the Visitors Center in Hallidie Plaza, just below the Powell Street cable car turnaround.

They will probably cost $5 or less.

Try this site. Not for buying the map, but for planning. It%26#39;s interactive and looks good .
