Housekeeping Camp

we changed our reservation from yosemite bug lodge to housekeeping camp in the park so that we would not have to commute everyday....was this a good decision??? we don%26#39;t mind roughing it, is housekeeping camp ok?? thanks

Housekeeping Camp

Well, they are rather different experiences, but if you enjoy roughing it you may be OK. Housekeeping camp is one step up from traditional tent camping. Instead of having to pitch your own tent, you have a 3 sided wooden structure (the fourth side is a curtain) with beds inside and an electric light. You%26#39;ll have your own ';deck'; with picnic table and BBQ pit so you can cook for yourself. You will have shared bathrooms/showers and a food locker to keep you and your food safe from the bears. You%26#39;re also located near the river which is very nice. But as with all camping experiences, bring some warm clothes to sleep in and for late night trips to the bathroom, a flashlight, and some bug spray!

If this sounds TOO rustic for you, then head back to the Bug!

Housekeeping Camp

When we visited my sister at Housekeeping I thought it was pretty bleak but lots of people like that. Personally I thought a tent was superior to housekeeping but there you have it - a difference of opinion. The structure is actually 3 sided cinder block with a canvas roof and as MAcjack says a curtain for the door. You share one wall and the roof with your next door neighbor so there is not so much privacy so if someone snores well look out! You have your own fire ring, bear box and cement patio with table. The one thing I did like was that you do have an electric light on the patio. I would never sleep on the mattresses myself but that didn%26#39;t seem to stop my sis and her family. I guess everyone has their limits! ;) It%26#39;s right next to the river so that could be a plus.
