Is it up 395 and thru Mammoth? Or up thru Nevada thru Fallon etc. We want to make good time going up and take the scenic (mammoth?) route back so snow on the way would mean that the Mammoth route would be OUT.

Your fastest driving route is indeed via US395. About nine and a half hours, roughly 545 miles. And this would certainly be the most scenic.
As far as I%26#39;m aware US395 is never, or at least very rarely, closed because of snow.
